New proposals by a group of experts to boost the UKâ��s creative economy have been published for consultation, Creative Industries Minister Shaun Woodward announced in August.

SNP considers exempting artists from income and property taxes

Rock stars, painters and writers would be given Irish-style tax breaks under plans being considered by the Scottish National Party (SNP).
They are looking at exempting artists from income and property tax, believing the measure would galvanise the arts sector and encourage creative people to live and work in Scotland.

The idea is being examined by the SNP as part of their manifesto for next yearâ��s Holyrood election.

Creative Valley are going to hold regular get-togethers at Holme St. Arts Centre in Hebden Bridge, starting with the first Wednesday in July (5th) at 7-9pm. The Centre is well equipped to demonstrate useful techniques like how to add content to the Creative Valley website and we hope to answer all your general enquiries about this local network of creative people.

The next meeting will be held at 7:30pm on Wednesday 24th May 2006 in the Holme Street Arts Centre, Hebden Bridge. There will be discussion about regular 'art fairs' and all other issues raised in the last Newsletter.

Creative Economy Programme website launched

The website of the UK Government Department for Culture, Media & Sport's Creative Economy Programme has been launched. The programme aims to make Britain the "world's creative hub", and will look at seven key areas: skills and education, competition and intellectual property, technology, business support and access to finance, diversity, infrastructure and evidence. You can find out more and contribute to the programme by visiting www.cep.culture.gov.uk.

Members of Creative Valley will have an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work, during a busy Christmas shopping week in Hebden Bridge. We will be opening the Arts Festival shop in Albert St. from 7-11 December, from at least 10am until 4pm daily.

Cafe and exhibition space opens in Mytholmroyd

Judy - a lecturer in interior design - and her husband Eddie have opened a cafe and gift shop in Mytholmroyd (just off Burnley Rd on the lane to the new Grange Dene car park). Not only do they offer a quiet and stylish environment and gourmet foods, but in the gift shop they offer exhibition space to local artists and craftspeople.
